Historical Events

Consensus 2015

Consensus 2015 marked the beginning of the Consensus conference series. Held in New York City on September 10, the event attracted over 600 attendees. Keynote speeches were delivered by industry leaders, and panel discussions focused on blockchain technology, cryptocurrencies, and their potential impact on global aid, disaster relief, and the future of global finance.

Consensus 2016

The second Consensus conference took place from May 2 to May 4, 2016. One of the main highlights was the Proof of Work competition, where five blockchain startups vied for a $10,000 prize. Colony, a decentralized employment company, emerged as the winner. A significant debate between R3 CEO David Rutter and 21 CEO Balaji Srinivasan centered on the merits of public and private blockchains.

Consensus 2017

From May 22 to May 24, 2017, the third Consensus conference was held, attracting over 2,700 attendees. The event featured more than 50 panels and workshops with over 200 speakers discussing various topics related to the blockchain and digital currency sectors.

Consensus 2018

The fourth annual Consensus conference in 2018 saw more than 8,000 attendees. Held in New York from May 14 to May 16, the event was notable for its high-profile speakers, including Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter and Square, and Dr. Ben Bernanke, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve.

Consensus 2019

Consensus 2019, held from May 13 to May 15, drew over 10,000 attendees. The event featured more than 350 speakers and covered a wide range of topics related to blockchain technology.

Consensus 2020

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the sixth Consensus conference transitioned to a virtual format. Named Consensus: Distributed, the event took place from May 11 to 15, 2020, and attracted over 13,000 registered attendees.

Consensus 2021

Held from May 24 to May 27, 2021, Consensus 2021 was a hybrid event with both in-person and virtual components. The conference spotlighted NFTs and the metaverse, with CoinDesk debuting an interactive VR exhibition featuring dozens of crypto artists.

Consensus 2022

Consensus 2022, held in downtown Austin, Texas, from May 24th to May 26th, was a festival-style event with over 20,000 attendees. The event was significant in the crypto community’s history, especially after the largest bull market in crypto history from 2020 to 2022.

Consensus 2023

Consensus 2023 took place in Austin, Texas, from April 26 to 28, 2023. The event featured talks from major figures in the industry, discussing the rebuilding of the industry after a challenging 2022 and the future of U.S. crypto policy.
